Diego Lopez from the 5 Star Plus Retail Design team, and based in Shanghai, visited the autumn edition of SIGN & LED China 2026 in early September to scan for new retail design products and innovations. The exhibition was held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The objective was to discover first-hand the latest innovations, materials and trends with potential applications in retail design, exhibition design and commercial spaces.
SIGN CHINA brings together companies and professionals from the signage, digital printing, LED technology and visual communication industries in Shanghai. Founded in 2003, it has established itself as an international reference event for these sectors, attracting visitors from more than 100 countries and regions throughout its history.
For professionals interested in exhibition design in China, the event provides an opportunity to discover new technologies, materials and solutions that are shaping the future of visual communication and commercial spaces.
In 2026, the event continued its two-edition annual format, with a spring edition held in March in Shenzhen and an autumn edition in September in Shanghai.
Four Shows with Retail and Exhibition Design Materials & Technology in One Venue
One of the most interesting aspects of this exhibition is its “4 Shows in 1 Venue” concept, bringing together four complementary exhibitions in the same venue: SIGN CHINA, LED CHINA, Digital Signage China and Digital Printing China.
This combination provides a broad overview of how the visual communication industry is evolving. On the one hand, the exhibition showcases the transformation of traditional signage towards digital and intelligent solutions, including the impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence. On the other hand, it provides an opportunity to discover the latest printing technologies and their applications in advertising, retail and other commercial spaces.
For exhibition design in China, these developments are particularly interesting as signage, lighting, digital displays and printed materials increasingly become integrated parts of the overall spatial experience.
Trends and Innovations of Solutions and Materials in 2026
The exhibition is organized around nine main areas: digital printing, digital textile printing, indoor and outdoor printing materials, acrylic and other signage materials, laser engraving and cutting technologies, signage and lightboxes, POP and POS solutions for retail, LED lighting, and LED displays and digital signage.
For a company specializing in retail design, exhibition design and commercial spaces such as 5 Star Plus Design, attending events like this is an opportunity to stay up to date with new materials, technologies and solutions that can be incorporated into future projects, while also observing how signage, visual communication, and customer experience within physical spaces are evolving.
Some particularly interesting examples of these solutions are film screens, which can transform different surfaces into dynamic platforms for visual communication. Their application opens new possibilities for working with shapes, volumes, transparency and movement, revitalizing spaces and taking branding in retail and exhibition environments beyond conventional flat graphic formats. Light, imagery and movement can therefore become part of the interior architecture itself, creating surfaces that transform, interact with their surroundings and generate visual focal points that reinforce the overall brand experience.
Another solution gaining increasing presence is the use of transparent and semi-transparent displays, which make it possible to integrate digital content while maintaining a visual connection with the space, products or activities taking place behind them. This layering of digital content and the physical environment creates opportunities to combine the reality of the space with imagery, video and animation, adding new layers of information and creating a more immersive and dynamic perception of the environment.
These solutions offer particularly interesting possibilities for retail environments, window displays, hospitality, restaurants, showrooms and workplaces, where branding can extend far beyond the simple presence of a logo and become a true spatial experience. Brand identity can be expressed through light, movement, imagery and interaction, turning the space itself into a communication medium.
In this sense, attending specialized trade shows is always a valuable exercise in creativity and inspiration: technology expands the possibilities of design, while creativity determines how those possibilities can be used to transform spaces and communicate a brand’s identity and values in more memorable ways.
Overall, SIGN & LED China 2026 provided an interesting overview of an industry that is rapidly moving towards increasingly digital, flexible and integrated solutions, with particularly relevant applications for exhibition design in China, retail, commercial spaces, exhibitions and interior design.
