Earlier this year, the British High Commission in Seychelles with support of the GREAT campaign and UK’s Department for Business and Trade launched a grand-scale national TV competition where local musical artists put their own creative spin on iconic British hits. The production is a collaboration between SBC and the British High Commission in Seychelles, highlighting a shared commitment to celebrating musical talent.
“The Great Battle for the Crown”, a music TV show consisting of seven episodes and a huge public grand finale, began broadcasting in April 2026, following participants as they developed their performances under the guidance of experienced mentors.
5 Star Plus Retail Design was tasked with providing all major design and decoration elements for the project, delivering a fully integrated turnkey event production solution. This meant developing the design for the stage decoration and eventrelated design elements as part of a comprehensive event design and production scope, and then producing and shipping the stage and event decoration to the Seychelles. Elements to be developed included:
- the concept design for the performance stage, composed of three LED screens inside color-changing lighting frames, white metal cubes with color-changing LED lighting, self-standing letters that also feature color-changing effects for a branded and highly dynamic look, and a branded floor.
- a stage backdrop design for media events and interviews, including a branded curved ceiling structure, a hanging branded ceiling element, and a branded lectern.
- a branded backdrop, gazebo, and branded accessories for additional event areas.
Once the concept was confirmed, detailed technical and production plans were created to ensure a seamless international event logistics process. All items were produced in China and shipped to Seychelles as part of a coordinated international turnkey delivery, where they were assembled by the technical team of the TV station.
What are the most critical points when designing stage backdrops and design elements for events?
- Events need to be highimpact and dynamic, especially when delivering stage design for TV productions, requiring a multi-sensory experience composed of screens, audio-visual content, and lively elements such as color-changing or moving light beams.
- Because of the amount of technical equipment involved, details like interfaces and proper technical planning can be highly complex and overwhelming. In addition to assigning sufficient time for this, all equipment needs to be tested before it gets packaged and shipped to the destination.
What additional key aspects need to be considered:
- Working with a large organization usually involves an existing brand with strict guidelines. The logo, slogan, brand colors, and other brand elements need to be represented correctly across all materials and channels.
- When designing for a remote project location like this event production in Seychelles, it’s important to understand local requirements such as climate, the building environment of the site, and electrical standards. Only in this way can applied materials be durable and technical and electrical equipment be safely connected to local power sources.
In the past weeks, “The GREAT Battle for the Crown” has emerged as the premier music showcase in Seychelles. Everything built toward a spectacular grand finale concert at the end of May, where the top artists competed for the title.
